The Green Rhino Song

Do your students need to revisit prepositions of place? Here we go: The Green Rhino Video and Song!

You may try any or several of these activities:

1. Play the video for students. Then play it again without sound. Pause at each slide and say, “Where’s Green Rhino?” Students can reply in writing or by speaking.

2. After watching, give students a gap-fill with the prepositions missing (see below).  They will fill in as many as they can remember.  Then play the video again, and give the students another chance.  Play the video until they have all the gaps filled in.

3. Fast preposition cards!  Get students 12 blank cards or pieces of paper.  Then dictate the following words.  They will write one on each card.

ON	IN	BY	UNDER
UNDERNEATH	AMONG	NEAR	BEHIND
ABOVE	NEXT TO	AGAINST	IN FRONT OF

 

4. Next, you’ll play the song.  Students will have the cards on their desks in front of them.  For each line of the song, they will grab the corresponding word and hold it up.  This is fast and furious fun!

Follow-Up: The Selfie Challenge

As homework, have your students make 5 similar photos of themselves using their cellphones.  The next day in class, they will do a mingle, walking around the room, and showing others their photos.  The person to whom they show the photo must form a sentence.  For examples, “You are behind a car.”  “You are under a bridge.”  Alternatively, students can photograph a  paper cut-out like our Green Rhino or a  stuffed animal.
